What We Do

Smartleaf is the market leader in overlay management technology. Here is a description of what Smartleaf does — and doesn’t — do.

What Smartleaf
Does
What Smartleaf
Doesn't Do
Trade Order Management Smartleaf generates a trade file — sorted by security, individual advisor, client, and tax lot, that flows into your TOM. Smartleaf does not route, allocate or reconcile trades.
Proposal Generation Smartleaf helps ensure that investment policy guidelines, including asset allocation and manager selection, are enforced consistently and systematically, with virtually no operational burden. Smartleaf does not create or suggest appropriate investment policy guidelines, including asset allocation and product selection.
Alerting System Smartleaf goes beyond simple alerts to deliver actionable trade recommendations, which are automatically pre-trade compliant for each client. In contrast to simple alerting systems, Smartleaf’s solution enables true scalablity and operational efficiency for managing large numbers of portfolios.
Portfolio Cloning Smartleaf can be used to clone portfolios, but Smartleaf can also recommend trades that will deliver the optimal balance between the management of overall portfolio risk, tax expense, constraints and trading expenses. This enables an efficient rebalancing process, that works for all portfolios. This is essential for implementing an open architecture program, where outside manager trades must be implemented in a timely manner.
Compliance All Smartleaf trade recommendations are pre-trade compliant, automatically conforming to each client’s individual investment policy statement. Smartleaf monitors every portfolio every day, and provides compliance personnel and senior management with a tool to monitor a variety of portfolio characteristics, including the overall tracking error of every portfolio as well as oversight of constraint management. Smartleaf does not provide post-trade portfolio compliance.
Performance Reporting Smartleaf is not a performance reporting system. Its purpose is to maximize alpha generation for each client portfolio. Smartleaf does not track or report on the performance of individual client portfolios.
